With a lot of hard work by Kenny Evans, engineer at Mesa Recording Studio, and bandmates Erik, Fred and Alan, the Dan Zemelman Quartet celebrated the release of the album with a fabulous concert at Yoshi's - Oakland in February

This summer Dan will be teaching 2 jazz piano class at the esteemed Jazzschool in Berkeley: Solo Jazz Piano and Jazz Piano 2 as well as accompanying Laurie Antonioli's Improvisational Singer class. Email for more info! More classes and workshops coming in the spring quarter!

The past summer,
Dan played at the Fillmore Jazz Festival and Sonoma Jazz Festival with the Fred Randolph Quintet.

Dan was on the faculty at Jazz Camp West last year. What a spectacular week!

Jazz camp is held every year near La Honda (South of SF). Tons of classes are offered daily with night-time jam sessions and concerts as well.

In 2006, DZ recorded at Skywalker studios w/Doug Beavers (from Eddie Palmieri's band) on a CD of children's songs arranged for big band that has been nationally released on Origin Records. Buy the CD by visiting CD Universe

In 2008 Dan performed in the Oakland Opera's production of Duke Elington's theatrical piece: Queenie Pie

"Pianist Dan Zemelman blends the numbers together gracefully with his tasteful accompaniment and familiarity with Ellington's material; he understands his role as both ensemble pianist and operatic continuo."
SF Chronicle

Alan Hall
- drums, Erik Jekabson - trumpet, Fred Randolph - bass

"'The Dan Zemelman Quartet brings some serious jazz chops (drummer Alan Hall has played with Dizzy Gillespie and Eddie Harris) and a bandleader who really knows his way around the 88s. Expect satisfyingly complicated bebop, tough yet silky." - SF Weekly

The John Lee Hooker album Dan recorded on, Face to Face, received a critics choice in People magazine and got an outstanding review (4 out of 4 stars). Check out clips 3 and 9 on the album to hear Dan's performances. Click on the picture for a link to the album.

Adios 2008

"It has been a fantastic year. I played a concert with my newly formed quintet, played at the Fillmore, San Jose and SF Jazz Festivals, opened for Los Lobos with Will Bernard at the Montalvo Arts Center, played at Kuumbwa Jazz in Santa Cruz and the Jazzschool in Berkeley with Natasha Miller, toured Hawaii with Plum Crazy, played a bunch with the amazing Fred Randolph Quintet and taught 2 jazz piano classes at the Jazzschool this past summer! I'm looking forward to what 2008 has to bring!"

Some highlights from years past...

March, 2007

February, 2005

"I had a terrific time working in collaboration with the Ragged Wing Theater Ensemble, directed by Amy Sass. The piece that I worked on was 'The Serpent', an experimental theater piece written in the 60's by Jean Claude Van Itallie. I worked with the cast on musical aspects of the performance, including an arrangement of the Appalachian folk song 'Going Home'. The piece got great reviews from all the major papers and was subsequently sold out for many nights, several weekends in a row. I look forward to the next collaboration. Perhaps I'll act in a piece......"

March 24, 2004

"Hey! I just got back from Argentina not too long ago. We had a great time there. Lots of sun, lots of kind people, and we performed for 550+ folks for 3 separate nights (with the Zakiya Hooker band, Blues 4 U). It was quite an adventure! I got to see several good friends who live in Buenos Aires and meet lots of great musicians from the area. It looks promising that I will return someday...
